There's something truly enchanting about an old house. I've been captivated by its allure since I was just 8 years old. Back then, my parents would take my sister and me along while they searched for a new home with some land. During one of those excursions, we stumbled upon an ancient farmhouse. Its wide wood-planked floors, towering windows, and, my personal favorite, the diamond-like glass door knobs, instantly stole my heart. In my young and imaginative mind, I couldn't help but believe that only a princess could reside in a place adorned with such fancy door knobs.
That's when it all began for me. I'm not a firm believer in love at first sight unless we're discussing an old house with delicate glass doorknobs. In that case, I wholeheartedly believe.
When my dear friend Jamie Inlow mentioned her latest boutique hotel, Afton Mountain Inn, I felt an irresistible urge to experience it myself. Jamie possesses a unique talent for transforming grand historic properties, too vast for most families to maintain, into enchanting boutique hotels. I, for one, am quite particular about renovations. It pains me to witness the disregard for the essence of these remarkable places, as people strip away their historic charms and opt for more modern finishes. However, Jamie and BeStill beautifully preserves the true nature of these locations while seamlessly infusing them with all the contemporary amenities one would expect from a boutique hotel experience.
While I won't delve into the detailed layout of each room, you can find that information on their website. Instead, let me express my enthusiasm for the truly remarkable ambiance that envelops Afton Mountain Inn.
Let's start indoors. As you step inside, you'll be greeted by a stunning stained glass entryway. To your left, there's a charming billiard room, perfect for some friendly competition. On the right, you'll find a spacious living room, offering ample space to relax and unwind.
For those who can't resist the urge to work even on vacation (no judgment here, just a gentle suggestion), there's a delightful cafe-style dining room. Adorned with marble-top tables, it sets the stage for a productive yet comfortable work environment. And if you need a sweet treat or a caffeine boost, fear not! There's a freezer brimming with delectable ice cream and a trusty coffee machine to keep you fueled.
Not only are the interiors remarkable, but the true enchantment lies beyond the walls of this elegant residence. The house is nestled amidst vast stretches of lush green grass, while three Adirondack-lined firepits are strategically placed around the property. As night descends, the Edison bulbs illuminate, creating a mesmerizing display that rivals the flickering glow of fireflies in the surrounding fields. And saving the best for last, the pool area boasts exquisite landscaping, inviting cabanas, and a luxurious hot tub.
Some travelers argue that the accommodation doesn't truly matter, as it's all about the location and planned adventures. However, I wholeheartedly disagree. The journey should be enchanting in every aspect. The place where you wake up sets the tone for your entire day and influences the overall experience of your trip. Therefore, choose to stay somewhere delightful, somewhere truly captivating. Stay at the lovely Afton Mountain Inn. Use code JULIA15 for 15% off your stay!
