Now, onto the DIY tutorial. It's pretty straightforward, but there are a few tips I would like to mention that will make it easier for you and yours to complete this project.
Supplies:
Cotton Yarn or String
Large Sewing Needle
Various other snacks
Directions:
First, choose your snacks wisely. I suggest incorporating marshmallows; I'll explain why in the next step. Have fun with this! Traditional garland is made by mixing cranberries with popcorn. For a new twist on the old, you can still incorporate fruit - think grapes, apple chunks, raisins, etc. Whatever you choose, make sure the items are soft and penetrable, e.g., gummies, popcorn, yogurt-covered pretzels, etc.
Next, clean the sewing needle with soap and water, then set it aside to dry. Ensure that your yarn is of a thicker variety. I strongly discourage the use of thread, as it is simply too thin and will not securely hold your snacks in a straight line. I recommend starting with a marshmallow. Its inherent stickiness will eliminate the need to tie a knot at one end.
Create your desired design on the countertop, starting and ending with a marshmallow. If you're making these with kids, ensure they're old enough to handle a needle and thread. Otherwise, once the little ones have completed their pattern or design, thread the needle and thread through each item, taking care not to break the popcorn or crumble the other snacks.
The final step is to savor the moment! Relax in front of your beloved Christmas movie, with your delightful edible garland in hand, and indulge in a delightful and enchanting evening!
Julia! This is absolutely darling!
