These apples are perfect for Christmas morning! They can be enjoyed as a side dish, used as a topping, or even take center stage as the main event. I personally love serving them atop pancakes or French toast. Additionally, this versatile apple filling can be used to speed up the process of making apple pie. Recipe Below!
First I need to mention the LOW and SLOW method for these apples. If your pan is too hot it will scorch the butter and burn the apples. Keep it low to medium during the duration of cooking.
Ingredients
1/4 cup butter
4 tart apples (I prefer granny smith) peeled, cored & chopped
2 tsp cornstarch
1/2 cup cold water
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Directions
Melt butter in a pan, add apples, and cook on low heat for 7-10 minutes (sometimes it can take up to 15 minutes depending on how thickly you sliced your apples) until they just start to soften. Dissolve cornstarch in cold water, then whisk and add to the pan of apples. Stir in the remaining ingredients and boil for about 2 minutes until thickened. Continue to cook on low heat until desired tenderness is reached. You want these to be soft, but not mush.
